S.S. Titanic Sign

This Titanic sign belive it or not is actually made out of plastic. The idea behind making this sign was to learn how to Cast and Mould, how to fake metals cheaply but to also become familiar with how to use a program called AutoCad and laser cutting. To start off an understand of what this was and where it had to be used had to met. These Titanic signs would have been originaly used on the life boats of the Titanic and can be seen in image (BELOW).

To start the measurements were realised on the previously mentioned program AutoCAD. A digital flat model was made on AutoCAD, letters and base separately. This was then cut out of 3mm MDF on a laser cutter. From this all the pieces were stuck together and relevant whole drilled. This wooden version was then moulded in sylicone rubber and once set it was then casting using Fast Cast resign, which is Polysomething based. Bronze powder was added to the fast cast to allow the set plastic to look like metal. The set Titanic sign had to then be polished to give the metal a realic sheen. Then relivant colouring was needed in order to make the sign look like it was under water for many decades like many of the exsisting signs look like in museums. The final product is then realised.
