Up Close Look at,' The Ambassadors,' Adaptation props,' Polyhedral Sundial.'

This is a Polyhedral Sundial a Renaissance navagational instrument. This was the first prop made for this set and prooved to be very challenging. It is made out of MDF, Cardboard, Acrylic and Paper. The number dials were drawn by hand using the original painting as a reference. Starting the project with this prop enabled me to begin learning about the various instruments used in the Renaissance time period. To mimic the original Polyhedral Sundial I had to research into what the Polyhedral Sundials would have been made of in this case Box wood, I had to look at examples to wooden Polyhedral Sundials from places such as the Maritime museum in london. What was discovered very quickly was that examples of this exact Sundial and non exsisted to my knowlegde, so I had to use a variety of examples of Polyhedral sundial to piece together what this one in the painting could have looked like. To get the size correct many paper Marquettes had to be made and photographed at various sizes and angles before making a final technical drawing ready for making the final object. Again like many props made for this set only the front was concentrated on as this was for a film set and the time contrates I was faced with ment that the final culminated photographed at the end was the most important element to this prop.
